Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia

Since 1976, the Medical Center Imbanaco has put the seal of quality in health care in the city of Cali. The facility is headquartered in the metropolitan heart, and two other centers north and south of the city.

In each of these centers, highly complex surgeries are performed, comprehensive personalized services are offered, and medical care is managed that have earned local and international prestige. In fact, it is one of the hospitals accredited to offer an international program through Joint Commission International. And it has been ranked number 11 in the ranking of hospitals and clinics in Latin America 2017 of the magazine América Economía.

Imbanaco Medical Center sees 850,000 patients each year, and has 350 beds for hospitalizations. In 2017, it performed 21,900 surgical procedures in intelligent operating rooms, many of them extremely difficult.

As soon as they arrive at this center of excellence, both the patient and the family are greeted in a warm, spacious environment where dedicated health professionals offer 24-hour support. The center has one head nurse for every 15 patients and one nurse's aide for every 8. For Imbanaco, the platform on which daily work is based is patient safety. To sustain this philosophy with actions, the center meets international standards of quality care, combined with a profoundly humane vision.

Safety is a corporate and human value for Imbanaco Medical Center, based on four concepts: Safety, trust, honesty, and teamwork.

This center of excellence is at the forefront in the comprehensive management of cancer, and in procedures in more than 8 surgical specialties with oncological subspecialties such as otolaryngology, urology and ophthalmology, among others.

For example, the Orthopedics Department employs 30 specialists in 8 interdisciplinary programs, ranging from the management of complex fractures and hip replacements to hand and foot surgery.

It also excels in the field of minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery in specialties such as neurosurgery, endovascular surgery, and hepatobiliary, with techniques at the frontiers of science such as resection of brain tumors by endonasal route, laparoscopic bariatric surgery, prostatectomy with Green laser, placement of cardiac prostheses by endovascular route, or pulmonary valves by bronchial route, and the correction of venous insufficiencies by radiofrequency.

The numbers of Imbanaco Medical Center speak for themselves: in addition to those already cited, it has a complication rate of 0.8/1000; a readmission rate of 5.1 per 1000; an infection rate of 3.9 cases per 1000 days of stay. The waiting time to treat a patient in an emergency is 17 minutes. For all these numbers and more, the satisfaction index is 98.

Its prestige, which has transcended the borders of Colombia, has made it possible for patients from all continents to arrive at the center. Therefore, at Imbanaco Medical Center, there are no time differences: At the International Office of the medical center, a team of five bilingual professionals attends to the needs of foreign patients and their families 24 hours a day. This patient welfare-focused-care ranges from scheduling medical appointments to counseling on housing, transportation, and immigration processes.
